With 97% high attendance rate, national member representatives vote for TFFU’s new leaderships, including union president, 2 vice presidents, 48 board directors and 16 board supervisors, among which16 managing board directors and 1 convener of supervisors board are elected at the same time. To abide by the Union Law, tenure of this newly elected TFFU’s 7th terms of office is extended to 4 years.
Lin Wan-Fu, who is the previous TFFU vice president and TBBU president, has been elected as TFFU new president. Lai Wan-Chih, our 5th & 6th union president and Wang Te-Chuan, president of Union of Fubon Financial Holding, are elected as the 2 vice presidents. In the former term of office, 2 new unions join TFFU as formal members and other 3 are expected to come; in addition, 4 new collective bargaining agreements are officially signed which is recognized tripartitely as a significant achievement of union movement in Taiwan. In this new phase, TFFU will continue working on collective bargaining, both at corporate and industrial level, and organizing workers in private financial institutes, where the 2 vice presidents will play essential roles.
As the government remains to consider M&A as key solution to financial crisis, it is assumed that more labor disputes would soon happen, not just on our members. TFFU is prepared to defend for all financial employees and actively do something to secure their basic rights, including financial policy researches, reach-out educational activities and a new industrial union, the Taiwan Financial Employees Union (TFEU), which Lai Wan Chih launches in February particularly for individual and unorganized workers in financial sector.
In terms of international affairs, a breakthrough in cross-strait exchange program is anticipated to realize this year due to political reasons. TFFU will keep involving in union solidarity activities as AROBIFU moves on. After our visit to RENGO and RENGO-RIALS of Japan in April, TFFU plans to build friendship with more international unions with similar labor issues and hopefully strengthen actual and firm cooperative actions in this area.
Lastly, Hang Shr Shian, TFFU general secretary and SU Yi Chih, deputy general secretary remain on their positions. Another new deputy general secretary, Lee Chia Yu from TBBU will assist the new president on certain issues.
